GOING THE DISTANCE, STRIVING FOR GOLD

The whole world is watching the Olympic Games as athletes from around the globe compete at the highest level. This is the time for them to shine and show off all their hardwork and preparation as they represent their countries with pride.

These athletes are motivated by determination, resilience and passion as they represent their individual countries while aiming for a gold medal.

A thought came to mind as I have been watching the Olympics. What if Christians think and act like Olympic athletes. Afterall, we are from different countries from around the world. And quite frankly we are all in a race (spiritual). Just like the Olympic athletes who win medals, Christians have a reward too – a crown decked with jewels promised to us and of course, eternity with our Heavenly father.

I look at Olympic athletes like Simone Biles and Katie Ledecky who are arguably GOAT’S in their respective sports….and I think of people like the apostle Paul, Barnabas, David and other spiritual giants in the Bible are probably equivalents if the Olympic Games were our spiritual race.

I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. (Philippians 3:14)

Consider the possibilities. What would happen if we Christians “trained” like Olympic athletes…diving into the word daily, praying like life depends on it, telling people about God and his mighty power?

And keeping personal, how wonderful would it be if you and I were so dedicated and committed to making disciples like these Olympic athletes?
